Biography
Renowned DJ and producer Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll alais Kygo was born in Bergen, Norway, on September 11, 1991. He learned to play the piano as a child and turned to electronic music after discovering Avicii as a teenager. Specializing in remixes of James Blake, Rihanna or The xx in his early days, Kygo had his first hit in 2013 with his remix of the track "Younger", by Norwegian singer Seinabo Sey. Since then, he has led an international career as a remixer and producer for Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, U2 and Imagine Dragons, as well as a DJ and solo artist with his own compositions performed by Scandinavian artists and international stars. Released in 2016, his debut album Cloud Nine brings together his hits including "Firestone", charted worldwide and number one in some European countries (#1 in the UK dance charts). His pop and soul-influenced style, as evidenced by his remixes of Marvin Gaye ("Sexual Healing") and Whitney Houston ("Higher Love"), was also marked in its early days by the vogue for tropical house and deep club house, before taking a dance pop path through his collaborations with high-profile artists such as Selena Gomez ("It Ain't Me"), Ella Henderson ("Here for You"), Ellie Goulding ("First Time"), Justin Jesso ("Stargazing"), Miguel ("Remind Me to Forget"), Rita Ora ("Carry On") and Zara Larsson ("Like It Is", with rapper Tyga). In 2016, he was the first DJ invited to perform at a closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The following year saw the release of his second album, Kids in Love, featuring new collaborations with John Newman and OneRepublic ("Stranger Things"), No. 1 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic chart. Kygo's international reputation and notoriety continues to rise with a succession of hits in 2019, including "Born to Be Yours" with Imagine Dragons, ahead of the June 2020 release of his third album Golden Hour, a collection of collaborations featuring his latest chart hits and new duets with Valerie Broussard, Kim Petras, Oh Wonder, Sasha Sloan, Dreamlab and Zac Brown. A constant presence on the international charts, the DJ is once again very much in the spotlight on his album Thrill of the Chase (2022), featuring contributions from Zoe Wees ("Love Me Now"), X Ambassadors ("Undeniable"), DNCE ("Dancing Feet") and Dean Lewis ("Never Really Loved Me"). After his cover of Paul McCartney and Michael Jakson's "Say Say Say" in 2023, he went on to record the No. 1 "Whatever" with Ava Max and "For Life", with Zak Abel and Nile Rodgers . All these hits appear on the Kygo album released in June 2024.
