Paul Valdemar Horsdal, known as Valdy, born on September 1, 1945, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, is a Canadian folk and country musician. He began his music career in the early 1970s, achieving a breakthrough with "Rock and Roll Song" in 1972, which was featured in Steve McQueenâs film The Getaway. His album, Country Man, followed shortly after. In 1973, he won his first Juno Award for Outstanding Folk Performance. Valdy continued to release albums, including Landscapes (1973) and Family Gathering (1974). He made guest appearances on children's television shows in the 1980s and released Contenders Two Still in the Running with Gary Fjellgaard in 2007. Notable albums include Viva Valdy (Live at Last) (2003) and Read Between the Lines (2012). Valdy was awarded the National Achievement Award by SOCAN in 2005 and appointed a member of the Order of Canada in 2011. In 2018, Valdy toured across Canada, including a performance on the main stage at the Mariposa Folk Festival.
