Biography
Born Tierra Umi Wilson in Seattle, Washington on February 9, 1999, the neo-soul and R&B vocalist is best-known by her stage name UMI. While in high school, UMI started writing songs to beats posted on social media. She started gaining attention when she uploaded audio files to her various social media accounts. In 2017 and 2018, she released a total of five singles including âRemember Meâ, one of her most popular tracks. In 2018, UMI released the Interlude EP. Although she was attending college at the University of Southern California (USC), she chose to drop out to pursue a career in music. In May, 2019, she released the Balance EP, which included âOrdinaryâ and âDown to Earthâ. Five months later â in October 2019 â UMI released the Love Language EP, which included the critically-acclaimed single âLove Affairâ. UMIâs first release in 2020 was the Introspection EP. In the first three years of her career, sheâs earned over 7 million streams on social media.
