Biography
Uakti was a Brazilian instrumental group formed in 1978 by Marco Antônio Guimarães, Artur Andrés Ribeiro, Paulo Sérgio Santos, and Décio Ramos. The group was known for using custom-made instruments built by the members. Their first recording was for the soundtrack of the film Cabaré Mineiro in 1979. Uakti's debut album, Uakti - Oficina Instrumental (1981), was released following performances with Milton Nascimento. The band gained international recognition through collaborations with artists such as Paul Simon and Philip Glass, including contributions to Simon's album The Rhythm of the Saints (1989). Other notable albums include MAPA (1992), Trilobyte (1997), Ãguas da Amazônia (1999), and Oiapok Xui (2005). The group disbanded in 2015.
