Biography
Mariano Uña Ramos, known professionally as Uña Ramos, was born on May 27, 1933, in Humahuaca, and was an Argentine virtuoso flautist, composer, and instrument maker known for crafting traditional Andean instruments, including the quena and siku (antara). At age four, he received his first quena from his father, who had crafted it himself. He began performing at seven years old and started teaching Andean music by age eleven. In the early 1970s, he embarked on an international tour with Paul Simon and Los Incas. Settling in Paris in 1972, he gained global recognition throughout the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. He received the Grand Prix du Disque de lâAcadémie Charles Cros in 1979 for Le Pont de bois. His discography includes nearly twenty albums. He passed away on May 23, 2014, in Nogent-sur-Marne, France.
