Biography

Doechii (previously known as Iamdoechii) is the stage name of American rapper Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon, born on August 14, 1988, in Tampa, Florida. Her music career began in 2015 when she released her debut single "Girls" on her music streaming channel. Over the next few years, she issued her first project Coven Music Session, Vol. 1, followed by the self-funded EP Oh the Places You'll Go in 2020. "Yucky Blucky Fruitcake," one of the singles from the EP, went viral on social media the following year and garnered significant attention from major labels. After releasing a second EP titled Bra-Less in 2021 and featuring on Isaiah Rashad's "Wat U Sed," she became the first female rapper to ever sign with Top Dawg Entertainment."Persuasive," her first release for the label and the lead single from her third extended play She / Her / Black Bitch, appeared in March 2022 and climbed to Number 37 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop chart. Her third mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal, emerged in 2024 on Top Dawg Entertainment with production from the likes of Camper and Childish Major. This ambitious alternative work won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2025, before the release of the single "Nosebleeds".
