Biography

Trent Gardner (1961–2016) was an American progressive rock and progressive metal keyboardist, singer, trombonist, and producer. He began his professional career in the mid-1980s and co-founded the band Magellan with his brother, Wayne Gardner. The group released its debut album, Hour of Restoration, in 1991. Gardner’s work with Magellan includes the albums Impending Ascension (1994), Test of Wills (1997), and Hundred Year Flood (2002).Gardner also led the Explorers Club project, releasing Age of Impact (1997) and Raising the Mammoth (2002). He produced the concept album Leonardo: The Absolute Man (2001) and contributed to tribute albums for Pink Floyd, Yes, and Rush. His collaborations featured musicians such as James LaBrie, John Petrucci, and Steve Howe. Gardner’s singles include “Icons” (2015) and “Cynic’s Anthem” (2013). He died on June 11, 2016.
