Biography

Colonial Cousins is an Indian musical duo formed in 1992 in Mumbai, consisting of Hariharan and Leslee Lewis. The ensemble performs Indian fusion, pop, and rock music. Their eponymous debut studio album, Colonial Cousins, appeared in October 1996 through Magnasound and reached platinum sales status in India. The recording reached Number 1 on the Indian music charts and received the MTV Asia Viewers' Choice Award and the US Billboard Viewers' Award in 1996. It featured the recording “Krishna”, which received the Star Videocon Award for Best Music Video. The duo was the first Indian act featured on MTV Unplugged. Subsequent studio recordings included The Way We Do It (1998) and Aatma (2001). The ensemble composed soundtracks for the Tamil films Modhi Vilayadu (2009) and Chikku Bukku (2010). The duo released the studio album Once More in 2012 and the compilation Rediscovered Gems in 2015.
