Biography

Talat Mahmood, born on February 24, 1924, in Lucknow, India, was a playback singer known for his contributions to Bollywood music and ghazal singing. He began his musical journey at 16, singing ghazals on All India Radio, Lucknow. His first disc, released in 1941 by Hi Master's Voice, included songs like "Sab din ek samaan nahin tha" and "Bun jaoon ga kya se kya main". In 1950, Mahmood gained significant recognition with the song "Ae dil mujhay aisi jaga le chal" from the film Arzoo. He recorded approximately 750 songs in 12 languages. Notable collaborations include duets with Lata Mangeshkar and Hemlata. Mahmood received the Padma Bhushan award in 1992 for his artistic contributions. His last soundtrack recording was "Mere Shareek-e-Safar" from Wali-e-Azam in 1985. Talat Mahmood died on May 9, 1998.
