Biography

Tran Quang Hai, born on May 13, 1944, in Linh Dong Xa, Vietnam, was a musician and ethnomusicology researcher. He came from a family of traditional musicians spanning five generations and was the son of ethnomusicologist Tran Van Khe. His career began with his appointment as an ethnomusicology research engineer at the Centre de recherche en ethnomusicologie (CNRS) in 1968, where he remained until his retirement in May 2009. Throughout his career, Tran Quang Hai released several notable albums, including Guimbardes du Monde - Jew's Harps of the World (1997) and Vietnam: Rêves Et Realités · Dreams & Reality (1988) with Bach Yen. He received several distinctions, such as the Cristal du CNRS in 1995 and the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 2002. He passed away on December 28, 2021, at the age of 77.
