Liliana Esther Maturano, known as Tormenta, was born on December 15, 1952, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and became a singer, songwriter, television presenter and actress. She began composing at twelve and was discovered by Victorâ¯Heredia in 1969, signing with RCAâ¯Victor at sixteen. Her debut single "Cebando Mate" sold about 450â¯000 copies and made her one of the first Argentine female rockâinfluenced chartâtopper. The 1971 hit "Adiós, chico de mi barrio" launched a series of albums-Tormenta (1970), Como una chica y un muchacho (1972)-and earned her a 1973 appearance at the Viña delâ¯Mar festival. In 1978 she moved to Microfón, releasing "Siâ¯fueraâ¯comoâ¯ayer", and later joined CBS/Sony, issuing Dando el alma (1988). She collaborated with composer Marianoâ¯Barabino on songs such as "Vuelveâ¯padreâ¯sol" and "Brindoâ¯porâ¯tiâ¯yâ¯porâ¯mi", earning multiple gold and platinum awards and selling over five million records during the RCA period. Tormenta continued touring into the 2010s, with 2013 releases Misâ¯20â¯Ã©xitos and Músicaâ¯deâ¯todosâ¯conâ¯Tormenta.
