Biography

Miguel Gallardo, born José Miguel Gallardo Vera on September 29, 1950, in Granada, Spain, was a celebrated singer-songwriter and producer who left a lasting impact on the Spanish and Latin American music scenes in the 1970s and 1980s. After moving to Barcelona as a child, he balanced his studies in engineering with his passion for music, learning guitar, piano, and solfège. He began his musical journey in Barcelona's music scene, first as a member of local bands like Los Kifers and later as a songwriter for other artists. In the early 1970s, he launched his solo career, adopting the name Miguel Gallardo. His first major success came in 1974 with "Quédate," followed by his debut album Autorretrato in 1975. The release of "Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti" in 1976 marked a turning point, achieving over 2 million sales and becoming a hit across Latin America. Throughout the 1980s, Miguel Gallardo continued to produce hits like "Y Apago la Luz" and "Corazón," earning gold and platinum records and performing at prestigious venues like the Viña del Mar Festival and Madison Square Garden. In the 1990s, he founded Veramusic, nurturing new talents while continuing to compose and produce. Miguel Gallardo passed away on November 11, 2005, leaving behind a rich legacy in Latin music.
