Biography

Danny Daniel (born Daniel Candón de la Campa on July 30, 1942, in Gijón, Asturias) launched his artistic career following a childhood fueled by music lessons and accordion practice that replaced his early passion for football. A ligament injury prompted a move to Mallorca in the 1960s, where he began performing and soon broke into recording; his 1971 duet with Donna Hightower, "El vals de las mariposas," became a Latin pop classic across Spain and Latin America. Throughout the 1970s, he enjoyed national and international success with hits like "16 años," "Qué bonita primavera," and "Por el amor de una mujer," the latter gaining massive radio play and live performance demand. His self-titled 1974 album spawned additional standout tracks including "Niña no te pintes tanto" and "Viento del otoño," all written by him. After a period focusing on salsa and bolero with albums like Cuando brilla una estrella (2004) and Más allá del sentimiento (2011), Danny Daniel released La voz de mi alma in 2016, featuring renditions of global classics such as "Granada" and "Volver, volver." His live performances in Latin America and Spain, including remastered singles like "El vals de las mariposas" (2025), underscore his enduring presence in romantic balladry and Latin pop.
