Biography
Eddie Money was an American rock singer. He was originally a New York City police officer but turned in his badge in 1968 to move to California and become a singer. In 1976 he changed his name to Eddie Money. Signed by Columbia Records, his first hit was 'Baby Hold On' in 1977. He followed this up with another hit rocker, 'Two Tickets to Paradise' in 1978. Both tracks appeared on his debut album 'Eddie Money'.
His blue-collar rock was a natural fit for 1980s MTV and his videos helped make hits of 'Shakin' and 'Think I'm in Love'. In the early 1980s Money succumbed to the temptations of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle and his popularity waned as he struggled with his addictions. The 1983 album 'Where's The Party?' did not sell well. However, he made a comeback in the late 1986 with the album 'Can't Hold Back'. It featured the epic single 'Take Me Home Tonight', a duet with Ronnie Spector that earned a Grammy nomination. His 1988 album 'Nothing to Lose' featured another hit, 'Walk On Water'. His final hit was 'Peace in Our Time' in 1990, before 1991's 'Right Here' sold poorly.
Money continued to tour and release new music, including 'Ready Eddie' in 1999 and 'Wanna Go Back' in 2007. Money and his five children appeared in the reality TV show 'Real Money' in 2018.
He died of cancer at the age of 70 in September 2019.
