Biography

Tommy Potts, born John Potts in Dublin, Ireland on January 1st, 1912, was an Irish fiddle player and composer. He began his career as a firefighter but gained recognition for his virtuoso musicianship in traditional Irish music circles. His unique style blended influences from jazz and classical music. In 1972, he released his only commercial recording during his lifetime, The Liffey Banks. Potts' approach to traditional Irish music as a creative art form is evident in compositions like "Top it Off." Despite never receiving formal training, Potts could read and write music, giving his works structure and variation.
