Biography

Stockton's Wing, an Irish band formed in 1977, featured Paul Roche on flute/whistle, Maurice Lennon on fiddle, Tommy Hayes on bodhran, Kieran Hanrahan on banjo/mandolin, and Tony Callinan on guitar and vocals. They gained early recognition by winning the traditional music category at a talent competition sponsored by Guinness in Limerick. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1978 under Tara Records. Mike Hanrahan replaced Tony Callinan during the recording of their second album, Take A Chance (1980), which included original compositions. Notable albums include Light in the Western Sky (1982), featuring hit singles "Beautiful Affair" and "Walk Away", and Full Flight (1986). Stockton's Wing toured extensively, including their first American tour in 1984. Their song "Over the Moor" became the theme music for Liveline, a popular radio show in Ireland. In 2020, Stockton's Wing released Beautiful Affair: A Stockton’s Wing Retrospective.
