Liam Weldon, born on October 15, 1933, in Dublin, Ireland, was a singer-songwriter known for his work in the Irish folk tradition. He began performing at local venues like the Central Bar and organized gigs throughout the 1970s. In the early 1970s, Weldon was part of the group 1691, which included notable musicians such as Tommy Peoples and Matt Molloy. Weldon's work often addressed themes of poverty and social issues, reflecting his interest in the songs of Irish Travellers. He released several albums, including Sixteen Ninety-One — Irish Folk Songs (1973) and Dark Horse on the Wind (1976). A documentary film titled Dark Horse on the Wind, about Weldon's life and music, was completed in January 2022. Liam Weldon passed away on November 28, 1995.
