Biography

Tinashe (born February 6, 1993, in Lexington, Kentucky, U.S.A.) is an American actress, singer, and dancer. Born Tinashe Jørgenson Kachingwe, she began her musical career in 2007 as a member of the pop band The Stunners. After the group disbanded in 2011, Tinashe shifted her focus to a solo career. She gained mainstream success with her 2014 debut major-label single, "2 On" (featuring Schoolboy Q), which peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and served as the lead single for her debut studio album, Aquarius (2014) which received moderate critical and commercial success. In 2015, she collaborated with Chance the Rapper on Snakehips' single "All My Friends," which peaked within the top ten on the music charts in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. She also appeared on Britney Spears' single "Slumber Party," which topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. Tinashe's second and third studio albums, Nightride (2016) and Joyride (2018), both reached the top ten on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. After departing from RCA, she released three independent albums—Songs for You (2019), 333 (2021), and BB/Ang3l (2023)—to continued critical acclaim. Her 2024 single, "Nasty," marked her first Billboard Hot 100 entry as a lead artist in a decade and her first solo song to chart. This single preceded the release of her seventh album, Quantum Baby (2024), which climbed to number 23 on the US Top R&B Albums chart.
