Biography

American rapper Chancellor Jonathan Bennett, known as Chance the Rapper, was born on April 16, 1993 in Chicago, Illinois. From an early age, he was fascinated by music, particularly hip-hop. He formed his first group in high school and expressed his desire to become an artist to his teachers, who tried to discourage him. He didn't give a damn, and at the age of 18, he published his first mixtapes #5Day and 10 Day on the net. These trials proved highly encouraging, with nearly 100,000 downloads. This attracted the attention of his peers and gave him the opportunity to collaborate with other artists such as Joey Bada$$. Chance the Rapper then released the mixtape, Acid Rap (2013), which welcomed a number of renowned collaborators such as Action Bronson and Donald Glover. The same year, he toured the world, opening for a number of artists, including Macklemore and Eminem. After his fourth mixtape Good Enough (2013), he collaborated with Lil B on Free (The Based Freestyle Mixtape) (2015), then returned in 2016 with Coloring Book, mixing pop and conscious rap as usual, amid other influences, in this case gospel, with numerous guests. The same year, he teams up with Jeremih for the mixtape Merry Christmas Lil' Mama. In 2019, his debut solo album The Big Day is released, reaching #2 on the Billboard 200 (#17 in the UK), including the hits "Do You Remember" with Death Cab for Cutie (#95) and "Hot Shower" with Madein TYO and DaBaby. After "Wraith" with Vic Mensa and Smoko Ono in 2022, Chance the Rapper invites DJ Premier in 2024 on "Together" and releases the album Star Line in 2025, charting at No. 22 on the Billboard 200, including contributions from Lil Wayne and Smino on "Tree" and Do or Die on "Ride".
