Biography

From a party-starting college band to massive YouTube favourites, pop duo Timeflies made fist-pumping, floor-filling, electro-rap bangers and managed to dance their way into Billboard's top ten with second album 'After Hours' in 2014. Rob Resnick took piano and guitar lessons from a young age and had been using ProTools to produce music since his high school days, while Cal Shapiro grew up in New York obsessed with rapper Big L and '90s hip-hop. Shapiro went on to take a music and entrepreneurship course and met Resnick while both were studying at Tufts University in Massachusetts. Allegedly, Resnick was beatboxing and DJ-ing at a party when Shapiro started laying down freestyle rhymes and he was so impressed that it led to Shapiro taking over as frontman of a funk band called The Ride with whom Resnick played drums. The band won local talent contests and opened for Ludacris but soon went their separate ways, with Resnick and Shapiro branching off to craft their bouncy, high energy hits as a duo from 2010. Resnick would initially play their tracks while DJ-ing at frat parties, but things really took off for the pair when their housemate and future manager started sending their demos to music blogs and they self-released their debut album 'The Scotch Tape' in 2011. Though they were popular on college campuses it was social media that really helped their rise and their cover versions and re-mixes of tracks by Miley Cyrus, Bastille, Carly Rae Jepsen and Ke$ha turned into their regular YouTube 'Timeflies Tuesday' sessions and began notching up millions of views. Their EP 'One Night' took them into the US top 30 in 2012 and helped them land a deal with Island Records, resulting in the album 'After Hours' which reached number eight and featured collaborations with T-Pain, Fabolous and Katie Sky. Shapiro's melodic raps and soulful vocals continued to mix with soaring synths and jumping beats on follow-up 'Just for Fun' and single 'NSFW' in 2015 and the duo toured with 2Chainz, returning in 2017 with mixtape '18th and Nowhere' and EP 'To Dream' in 2018.
