Biography

Real name Jean-Michel Fock, Reunionese singer Ti'Fock was born in 1945 to a mother of African descent and a Chinese father. He was only 4 when he lost his Chinese father, and 7 when his mother disappeared. Two years later, aged 9 and virtually on his own, he dropped out of school and wandered the streets, sometimes singing at balls. A songwriter, arranger, guitarist, kayamb player and jazz aficionado, Ti'Fock became an emblematic figure of electric, crossbred maloya from 1978 onwards, with the release of "Bweo mon fra", which made him a household name throughout Réunion, followed by "Di a moin pou koué lé moi" in the early 1980s and a debut album entitled Mafate. After forming his own group, Fock Group, he went on to release a number of albums, including Donn Douler in 1991, Swit Iozik in 1994, Ganidan in 2000, Titiay in 2007 and Gayar Natir in 2012.
