Biography

Born on July 16, 1976 on the island of La Réunion, Patricia Philippe began her musical career as a singer with several local groups. In 1999, she joined the group Ziskakan, formed by Carpanin Marimoutou, Gilbert Pounia and Mishko M'Ba and known for its first albums Ziskakan (1981) and Pei Bato Fou (1983). This experience shaped the singer, who spent six years honing her musical technique and familiarizing herself with the big stages (such as the Casino de Paris). In 2005, Patricia Philippe decided to go solo, under her own name. This new project kicked off with a debut album that same year, Choké, which instantly won over the Reunionese public and became the second best-selling album on the island. She developed her maloya music, in the tradition of the major Réunionese artists of the late 20th century. This influence can be heard on her second album, Poétik Maloya (2008), where the singer aims to blend poetry and maloya, while paying tribute to her predecessors, such as Alain Peters on "Lenchantèr".
