Biography

Nathalie Natiembé was born on July 7, 1957 in Saint-Denis de La Réunion. Now a singer, she performs maloya, the emblematic musical genre of La Réunion. But it is mixed with African and Indian Ocean influences. She recorded her first studio album, belatedly christened Margoz , in 2001 for Discorama. Three years later, she followed this up with Sankèr, produced by Yann Costa (from the French group Zong), who adds a slight electro touch to the whole. This album, on which she is accompanied by accordionist Régis Gizavo and percussionist Lélou Menwar, earned her the "Choc" award from Le Monde de la Musique magazine. Four years later, she put the finishing touches to the album Karma, in which Bumcello members Vincent Ségal and Cyril Atef played an active part. It was another four years before Bonbon Zetwal , an album inspired by the world music of the 1970s, was released. It is promoted by the title track. In 2019, she returns with the album Vortex 60, recorded in Johannesburg by Tiago Correia-Paulo.
