Biography

Renowned DJ and producer Tiësto (born 17 January 1969 in Breda) aka "the godfather of EDM" has remixed for some of the most famous artists in the world, establishing himself as one of dance music's most successful brands. Born in the Netherlands, Tijs Michiel Verwest started out playing house records at clubs in his home town of Breda before producing his own hardcore tracks and starting the label Black Hole Recordings. Making his name at Sheffield's famed club night Gatecrasher, he became one of the leading trance DJs in the late 1990s with his remix of Delirium's single "Silence" featuring Sarah McLachlan giving him his first top ten hit in the UK. Debut album In My Memory (2001) was followed by Just Be in 2004 which included the hit "Adagio for Strings." However, it was third album Elements of Life (2007) that made the major commercial breakthrough, reaching number 14 in the UK and earning a Grammy Award nomination. In a move away from trance, experimenting with other genres in dance music, Kaleidoscope arrived in 2009 and peaked at number 2 in his home country. In 2014, he returned with fifth studio album A Town Called Paradise, which featured the singles "Wasted," which peaked at number one on the UK Dance Chart and "Red Lights," which reached number two. In 2015, he won the Grammy Award for Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical for his remixed version of John Legend's hit "All of Me." 2018 saw the release of EP I Like It Loud which featured Mesto, Matisse & Sadko and MOTi and in the same year the track "Jackie Chan" with Post Malone, Dzeko and Preme reached the top ten in charts around the world. He named his sixth album The London Sessions (2020) after the source of its inspiration and loaded the LP with several collaborators: Canadian producers Dzeko and Shaun Frank, and British producer Jonas Blue, as well as uncredited collaborations with Luis Torres, Gorgon City, and Burns. Tiësto's seventh studio Drive album came in 2023 and contained a handful of his recent hit singles, including "Hot In It" with Charli XCX and "The Motto" with Ava Max.
