Biography

Thomas Agergaard, born in 1962, in Denmark, is a Danish jazz saxophonist, flutist, and composer. Introduced to jazz through his cousin's record collection, Agergaard began composing at a young age and received private saxophone lessons, though he remained self-taught as a composer. He released his debut album Rounds in 1993, followed by notable works such as Little Machines (2003) and Growth (2009). He received the DJBFA's Honorary Award in 2002 and a three-year stipend from the Danish National Arts Foundation that same year. Agergaard's career also included collaborations with dance companies and serving as the musical director of the Jazzpar Octet in 2003. He has also produced multimedia installations and film compositions. Subsequent albums include Black Swan (2018) and Garden of Sounds (2023).
