Biography

Thinking Fellers Union Local 282, often shortened to 'Thinking Fellers' or 'TFUL282', was an American indie rock band formed in 1986 in San Francisco. Their early releases included Tangle (1989) and The Natural Finger EP (1990). The band achieved critical success with Strangers from the Universe (1994), released under Matador Records, and toured Europe that year. In 1996, they briefly toured as an opening act for Live. Their album before a long hiatus was Bob Dinners and Larry Noodles Present Tubby Turdner's Celebrity Avalanche (2001). The band was referenced by author Jonathan Franzen in his 2001 novel The Corrections. The band has been largely dormant since then, but made notable appearances at the All Tomorrow’s Parties festival in 2011. In 2019, the band was interpolated by The National in "Not In Kansas" on the album I Am Easy to Find.
