Biography

The Weather Station have been at the forefront of Canada's indie-folk scene since forming in Toronto in 2006. Led by singer-songwriter Tamara Lindeman, the group began life as a solo project before evolving into a full band over time, with various collaborators contributing to its evolving sound: Ben Whiteley (bass), Johnny Spence (keyboards), Will Kidman (guitar), Christine Bougie (guitar), Karen Ng (saxophone, clarinet) have all been counted as members. The Weather Station released their debut LP The Line before breaking through with their self-titled album of 2017, which was nominated for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2018. In 2021, the band released Ignorance, a departure from their previous sound, incorporating elements of art-pop and more experimental production. The record gave them their first taste of commercial fame, cracking both the Belgium and UK charts and reaching 61 on the latter. They mined a folk-jazz sound for the 2022 follow-up How Is It That I Should Look at the Stars and looked to a more classic singer-songwriter mould for their seventh studio album Humanhood (2025).
