Biography

The Teskey Brothers are an Australian blues and soul band, who all grew up around the Yarra Valley near Melbourne. The band is centered upon brothers Josh and Sam Teskey who first started busking together around Melbourne. They were joined by bassist Brendon Love and drummer Liam Gough in 2008 and began playing Melbourne venues as The Teskey Brothers before gaining a substantial live following. Inspired by their love of Motown records from the 1960s and 1970s, the band developed a gritty R&B/soul sound accentuated by Josh Teskey's husky vocals. They also worked as the backing band for singer Ella Thompson. In 2017, the Teskey Brothers released their studio debut, Half Mile Harvest, which reached Number 18 on the Australian charts. Preceded by the promotional singles "So Caught Up," "Man of the Universe," and "Hold Me," their second album, 2019's Run Home Slow, fared even better, peaking at Number 2 and receiving gold certification. It also helped the band bag three ARIA awards for Best Group, Best Blues and Roots Album, and Engineer of the Year. During 2020, the Teskey Brothers were active in fundraising for victims of the Australian bushfires and hit the top of the charts in Australia with their first live album, Live at the Forum. Following the departure of founding members Brendon Love and Liam Gough, the band continued as a duo and released their third studio effort, The Winding Way, in 2023.
