Biography

The Tears were an English rock supergroup formed in 2004 by former Suede members Brett Anderson (lead vocals) and Bernard Butler (lead and rhythm guitars, backing vocals), joined by Will Foster (keyboards, piano), Nathan Fisher (bass guitar, backing vocals) and Makoto Sakamoto (drums, percussion). Their first public appearance was a live show on 14 December 2004 at the Oxford Zodiac, and the group released the single "Refugees" on 25 April 2005, which entered the UK Singles Chart at Number 9. The duo followed with the album Here Come the Tears on 6 June 2005; the record peaked at Number 15 on the UK Albums Chart and produced the single "Lovers" (CD1) which reached Number 24. The Tears toured extensively, performing at festivals such as Glastonbury and T in the Park. Despite critical interest, the band disbanded in 2006 after a brief European tour was cancelled and the label dropped them; Brett Anderson subsequently focused on a solo career and Suede reformed in 2010, while Bernard Butler pursued production work. Makoto Sakamoto died on 21 August 2018.
