Biography
The Speer Family, a Southern gospel group from Nashville, Tennessee, was founded in 1921 by George Thomas ("Dad") Speer and his wife Lena Darling ("Mom") Speer. The group began performing to supplement their farming income and quickly gained success, leading them to become a full-time musical act. They released albums such as The Speer Family Album (1955) and All-Night Singing: Speer Family Style (1961). George Thomas "Dad" Speer died in 1966, followed by Lena "Mom" Speer in 1967. The group continued under the leadership of Ben and Brock Speer until their retirements in 1993 and 1998, respectively. The Speer Family was inducted into the Gospel Music Association's Hall of Fame in 1998 and received numerous awards, including 14 Dove Awards.
