Biography
The Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia Pipe Band was a Scottish pipe band from Shotts in North Lanarkshire, formed in 1910 by Pipe Major Dugald MacFarlane. The band's early years saw them purchasing their first uniform with kilts of the McKenzie tartan in 1914 and entering various competitions. Their breakthrough came under Pipe Major Tom McAllister, who led the band to win the Grade 2 world championship in 1935 and subsequently upgrade to Grade 1. The band won their first World Championships in 1948 and continued to dominate the scene, securing multiple championships under various pipe majors including Tom McAllister Jr., Robert Mathieson, and Ryan Canning. Notable albums included Bagpipe Marches and Music of Scotland (1976) and La Boum Ãcosse (2001). The band won the World Pipe Band Championships sixteen times, with their most recent victory in 2015 under Pipe Major Ryan Canning.
