Biography

Alexander James Harvey was born on 5 February 1935 in Glasgow, Scotland. He began his music career performing in skiffle groups in 1954 and later led Alex Harvey's Big Soul Band from 1958 to 1965, focusing on blues and rock'n'roll. In 1972, he formed the Sensational Alex Harvey Band (SAHB) with guitarist Zal Cleminson, bassist Chris Glen, and cousins Hugh McKenna (keyboards) and Ted McKenna (drums). The band released their debut album Framed in 1972, and turned in a string of notable albums during the 1970s. Alexander James Harvey left the group in 1976, but re-joined for the album Rock Drill in 1978. After leaving SAHB permanently, he released two solo albums: The Mafia Stole My Guitar (1979) and Soldier on the Wall (1982). Alexander James Harvey died from a heart attack on 4 February 1982.
