Biography

The Research were formed in Wakefield, England, by Russell “The Disaster” Searle (vocals, guitar, synthesizers), Georgia Lashbrook (bass, vocals, harmonica) and Sarah Williams (drums, vocals) in the early 2000s. Their early work appeared on the 2004 single "Love Me Tender" and the 2005 double A‑side "C'mon Chameleon"/"I Love You But...", which entered the UK singles chart at number 63, marking the band’s first commercial breakthrough. In 2006 they released their debut album Breaking Up through At Large Recordings, a subsidiary of EMI. The album spawned singles such as "The Way You Used To Smile" (UK number 66) and "Lonely Hearts Still Beat The Same". After parting with EMI, the group signed to This Is Fake DIY Records and issued their second album The Old Terminal in 2008, featuring the collaboration "I Would Like To Be Forgiven" with Gary Jarman of The Cribs. The band disbanded later that year, though they reunited for a one‑off performance at Wakefield’s Long Division Festival on 10 June 2023 and a subsequent concert at The Lexington in London on 12 January 2024.
