Math and Physics Club, an American indie pop band based in Seattle, Washington, was formed in 2004 by Charles Bert and James Werle. The duo began as a basement project, releasing their first digital-only single on Comfort Stand Recordings featuring "Graduation Day" and its b-side "Everybody Lies". By mid-2004, the band's lineup expanded to include Kevin Emerson on drums, Saundrah Humphrey on violin, and Ethan Jones on bass. Their initial demo caught the attention of Jimmy Tassos of Matinee Recordings and KEXP DJ John Richards, leading to heavy radio play for their first EP Weekends Away (2005). The band's debut LP Math And Physics Club was released in 2006, earning a favorable review from Pitchfork Media. Subsequent releases include I Shouldn't Look As Good As I Do (2010) and Our Hearts Beat Out Loud (2013). James Werle passed away in September 2018 due to cancer.
