The Producers, a rock music group from Atlanta, Georgia, formed in 1981. The original lineup included Van Temple on guitar and vocals, Kyle Henderson on bass and vocals, Wayne Famous (Wayne McNatt) on keyboards, and Bryan Holmes on drums. Initially known as a Beatles cover band named Cartoon, they transitioned to performing their own material in local nightclubs. The Producers were signed to Columbia Records subsidiary Portrait Records by producer Tom Werman. Their debut album The Producers was released in 1981, followed by You Make the Heat in 1982. The band gained regional popularity in the southeastern United States and charted with "What She Does to Me" on Billboard Magazine's national singles charts. They toured extensively throughout the early 1980s, opening for bands such as Cheap Trick and The Motels, and headlined MTV's New Year's Rockin Eve broadcast in 1982. After Portrait Records dropped them, Kyle Henderson left to record a solo album. The band released Run For Your Life in 1985 on an Atlanta-based independent label, featuring a collaboration with Kansas on the song "Can't Cry Anymore". Despite signing with MCA Records for their fourth album Coelacanth, the band was dropped before its release, which eventually came out in 2001. The Producers officially retired in 1991 but continue to reunite for occasional live shows.
