Biography

The Panhandlers are a country supergroup hailing from Texas. Formed in Austin in 2016, the band consists of prominent alternative country singers and musicians Josh Abbott, John Baumann, William Clark Green and Cleto Cordero, all Texas natives. Glorifying the eastern part of the state and specifically the town of Lubbock, where the band is based, The Panhandlers are inspired by the legendary Flatlanders, who since the 1970s have included Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock. The Panhandlers' first album, produced by Bruce Robinson, was released in 2020 on the Next Waltz label. The Covid-19 pandemic then spreading around the world prevented the band from performing live, despite very favorable reviews from the specialist press. Back in 2022, The Panhandlers sign the EP West Texas Is the Best Texas, foreshadowing the second album Tough Country (2023), this time featuring tracks by Guy Clark or Charlie Strout and including the participation of singer Kaitlin Butts on one track.
