The Magnolias, an American indie rock band from Minneapolis, formed in 1984 with John Freeman as frontman. The group played their first live performances in 1985 and released their debut album Concrete Pillbox in 1986 on Twin/Tone Records. They followed this with For Rent (1988) and Dime Store Dream (1989), establishing a high-energy sound rooted in punk-influenced indie rock. In 1992, The Magnolias signed with Alias Records and released Off the Hook, followed by the EP Hung Up Onâ¦. They later returned to Twin/Tone Records for Street Date Tuesday (1996). After a period of reduced activity, the band released Better Late Than Never (2007), a collection featuring unreleased demos and outtakes. Their final studio album, Pop the Lock, was released in 2011 after being funded through Kickstarter.
