Biography

The Lotus Eaters, an English new wave band, were formed in Liverpool in September 1982 by Jeremy "Jem" Kelly on guitar and Peter Coyle on bass. The initial lineup also included Ged Quinn on keyboards, Alan Wills on drums, and Phil Lucking on bass. Their breakthrough came with the single "The First Picture of You", which became a hit in the UK and continental Europe, notably in France, Italy, Belgium, and Spain. This success led to their signing with Arista Records. The band's debut studio album, No Sense of Sin, was released in 1984 by Arista subsidiary Sylvan Records, preceded by three further singles: "You Don't Need Someone New", "Out on Your Own" and "It Hurts". Despite initial success, the band faced difficulties with producers and marketing, leading to a hiatus in 1985 after Quinn's departure. The Lotus Eaters reformed in 2001 as a duo comprising Coyle and Kelly, releasing the album Silentspace (2002). They performed at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in July 2009 and toured extensively, including shows in Japan. Differance, their third studio album, arrived in 2010.
