Biography

The Kingbees were an American rockabilly trio formed in the late 1970s by Canadian-born guitarist, singer, and songwriter Jamie James. The band emerged during the early 1980s rockabilly revival, combining classic 1950s rock and roll with a modern edge. Alongside bassist Michael Rummans and drummer Rex Roberts, The Kingbees developed a tight, energetic sound rooted in rockabilly, country, and roots rock. Their self-titled debut album, The Kingbees (1980), was released on RSO Records and featured the single “My Mistake,” which received radio airplay and helped establish the band’s reputation. They followed with The Big Rock (1981), continuing their stripped-down, driving style and supporting the release with touring and live performances. Despite growing recognition, the band disbanded in the early 1980s.
