Biography
Welsh guitarist, singer and producer Dave Edmunds is primarily an icon of the pub rock period of the mid-1970s. Early in his career, he gravitated towards blues rock and progressive rock, before exploring a return to the roots of rock 'n' roll with the pub rock movement. In 1970, he reached number one in the UK with his version of "I Hear You Knocking". Two years later he released the album Rockpile, then began a long-term collaboration with bassist and producer Nick Lowe, starting with Subtle as a Flying Mallet in 1975. In 1976, the two men formed the short-lived, legendary Rockpile group, which released just one album. Now a much-appreciated producer and session guitarist, Dave Edmunds juggled collaborations in the 1980s (Stray Cats, Paul McCartney,...). His own career was diluted by new wave, with several albums produced by Jeff Lynne enjoying only limited success. Still active, Dave Edmunds released On Guitar... in 2015. Dave Edmunds: Rags & Classics, while his discography is regularly the subject of compilations and reissues.
