The Johnston Brothers, a British vocal group, was formed in 1948 by Johnny Johnston. The group initially consisted of Johnny Johnston, Alan Dean, and Denny Vaughan, who began recording for Decca Records under the name The Keytones. Their first record was the title melody from the film Portrait of Jennie. Notable releases include the singles "Tennessee Waltz / My Heart Cries For You" (1951). In 1953, they achieved their first official chart hit with "Oh, Happy Day". The group's lineup changed over time, and by 1954, they had released a cover of "Hey There" and "Hernandoâs Hideaway", the latter becoming their only Number One hit in 1955. They also released the album, Join and Sing With the Johnston Brothers (1956). The group also contributed backing vocals to various artists, including Reggie Goff and Lita Roza. Johnny Johnston continued his career in music production and advertising jingles after the band's success.
