Biography
The Eureka Brass Band, active from 1920 to 1975, and founded by trumpeter Willie Wilson in New Orleans, was a prominent brass band known for its extensive recordings. The group's membership varied but typically included 9 to 11 musicians with a standard instrumentation of three trumpets, two trombones, two reeds, tuba, snare drum, and bass drum. Notable albums include Jazz at Preservation Hall I (1963) and In Rehearsal 1956 (2000). After Wilson's departure due to illness in the late 1930s, leadership passed through several hands, including Percy Humphrey, who led until the band's disbandment in 1975.
