Biography
Gregory James Broussard, known as The Egyptian Lover, was born on August 31, 1963, in Los Angeles, California. He began his career as a DJ with Uncle Jamm's Army and started recording with groups such as Radio Crew and Uncle Jamm's Army in the early 1980s. His breakthrough came with the release of "Egypt, Egypt", a popular single that became a West Coast electro classic. The Egyptian Lover released his debut album On the Nile in 1984, reaching the Billboard Top 200. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, he continued to release albums including One Track Mind (1986), Get Into It (1990), and Pyramix (1993). Recognized as a pioneer in the use of the Roland TR-808 drum machine in rap and dance music, Broussard has cited Kraftwerk, Prince, Zapp and Roger Troutman, Afrika Bambaataa, and Dean Martin as major influences on his production, vocal style, and approach to electro-rap.
