Biography
Newcleus, an American electro and old school hip hop group, was formed in 1977 in Brooklyn, New York. The group initially consisted of teenagers Ben "Cozmo D" Cenac, Monique Angevin, Pierre "Pete" Angevin, and Yvette "Lady E" Cook. They started as Jam-On Productions, playing block parties in Brooklyn. Their breakthrough came with the 12-inch single "Jam-On's Revenge" (released in 1983), which was retitled "Jam On Revenge (The Wikki-Wikki Song)" and reached number 40 on the U.S. R&B chart. The group signed with Sunnyview Records, later acquired by Rhino Records. Their follow-up single "Jam on It" reached number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984. Newcleus released two albums in the mid-1980s, Jam On Revenge (1984) and Space Is The Place (1985), although neither sold well. The group continued to record until 1989. In later years, several albums were released under the Newcleus name by producers, including Destination: Earth â The Definitive Newcleus Recordings in 2004, which featured restored and remastered tracks from their catalog. Bob "Chilly B" Crafton died at age 47 of a stroke on February 23, 2010.
