The Dynamic Superiors, a soul music group from Washington, D.C., United States, formed in 1963 with members Tony Washington (lead), George Spann (first tenor), George Peterback Jr. (second tenor), Michael McCalpin (baritone), and Maurice Washington (bass). The group's early career included recording "I'd Rather Die" on the New York SUE label in 1969, a song written by Maurice Washington. In 1972, they were discovered by Motown executive Ewart Abner at a DJ convention in Atlanta and signed to the label. After a slight name change, their first album, The Dynamic Superiors, was released in 1975, followed by Pure Pleasure later that same year. Both albums featured songs written by Ashford & Simpson. The group achieved moderate success throughout the 1970s, with notable hits including "Shoe Shoe Shine" in 1975. Tony Washington passed away in 1989. The group's last recording came in 1980. In 2006, the group reformed with George Spann leading a new lineup that included members of The Flamingos. Their first two Motown albums were posthumously released on CD by Universal Music's subsidiary Soul Music.Com Records in 2010.
