Biography
Ray, Goodman & Brown is an American R&B vocal group originating from Washington D.C. The original members of the Moments, who later became Ray, Goodman & Brown, were Eric Olfus Sr., Richard Gross, and John Morgan. Formed in the mid-1960s, they initially recorded "Baby I Want You" and "Pray for Me" for Hog Records. In 1968, Mark Greene joined, and the group signed with Stang Records, releasing their first hit "Not on the Outside". The lineup evolved to include Al Goodman, William "Billy" Brown, and Harry Ray by 1970. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Love on a Two-Way Street", which reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1970. Subsequent hits included "If I Didn't Care" and "All I Have". The group continued to produce successful singles such as "Sexy Mama" (1973) and "Look at Me (I'm in Love)" (1975). In 1978, due to a legal dispute with Stang Records, the group renamed themselves Ray, Goodman & Brown and signed with Polydor Records. Their notable releases under this name include the album Ray, Goodman & Brown (1979) and the single "Special Lady" (re-released in 2009). The group achieved significant chart success, including multiple top 10 R&B hits and international recognition.
