Enchantment is an American soul and R&B group formed in Detroit, Michigan, in 1966 by Emanuel âEJâ Johnson, Joe âJobieâ Thomas, Bobby Green, Edgar âMickeyâ Clanton, and David Banks, with Emanuel Johnson as lead vocalist. The group's breakthrough came in 1976 when the single âGloriaâ reached number 5 on the Billboard R&B chart and âSunshineâ peaked at number 3. In 1977, the group released its self-titled debut album Enchantment, followed by Once Upon a Dream (1978), which achieved number 8 on the R&B albums chart and number 46 on the Pop chart. The album featured the crossover ballad âIt's You That I Needâ, which reached Number 1 on the Billboard R&B chart. Subsequent releases include Journey to the Land Of... Enchantment (1979), Soft Lights, Sweet Music (1980), Enchanted Lady (1982), and Utopia (1983).
