The Dils, an American punk rock band from Carlsbad, California, was formed in 1976 by brothers Chip Kinman and Tony Kinman. They relocated to San Francisco shortly after forming, influencing the city's emerging punk scene. Their debut single, "I Hate the Rich / You're Not Blank", was released on What? Records in 1977. The band's next release, "Class War / Mr. Big", came out later that year on Dangerhouse Records and is considered their critical high-point. In 1980, they released a three-sided double-7" titled Made in Canada, produced by Bob Rock. The Dils opened for The Clash in Santa Monica in 1980 and played their final show with Black Flag later that year before disbanding. Post-breakup, the Kinman brothers continued their musical careers with various projects. Tony Kinman passed away on May 4, 2018. Chip Kinman revived The Dils in 2019, with the group's first performance taking place at The Grand Star Jazz Club in Los Angeles' Chinatown on January 27. The following night, The Dils performed at San Diego's Casbah Club. The lineup included Kinman, his stepson Giuliano Scarfo on drums, and Brian Melendez on bass and backing vocals.
