Biography

The Del-Lords, an American roots-rock band, formed in New York City in 1982 by The Dictators' guitarist Scott Kempner. The group combined elements of 1960s garage rock with country, blues, and folk influences. Their debut album, Frontier Days, was released in 1984 on EMI America, followed by Johnny Comes Marching Home (1986), Based on a True Story (1988), and Lovers Who Wander (1990). Notable singles include "Get Tough" and "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live". After a hiatus, the Del Lords resumed activity in 2010, releasing Under Construction EP and touring. Their final album, Elvis Club, was released in 2013 on GB Music. Guitarist and vocalist Scott Kempner, diagnosed with dementia, died on November 23, 2023, at the age of 69. On June 5, 2026, bassist Steve Almaas, who had previously played in The Suicide Commandos and Beat Rodeo, died of cancer at the age of 69.
