Biography
The Deep Dark Woods is a Canadian alternative country band from Saskatoon, formed in 2005. The founding lineup included Ryan Boldt, Chris Mason, Burke Barlow, and Lucas Goetz. Following the release of their breakout album, Winter Hours, in 2009, the group added keyboardist Geoff Hilhorst. In 2011, they released The Place I Left Behind, which was followed by the album Jubilee on September 30, 2013. The band contributed the original song âCharlie's (Is Coming Down)â to the Great Canadian Song Quest in 2009. After Goetz left the group in late 2014, the band entered a hiatus during which Boldt released solo material. Mason officially departed the group in 2017. That same year, the band released Yarrow on October 27, which was nominated for a Juno Award in 2019. Subsequent projects include Broadside Ballads Vol. III in 2024. The band released the album The Circle Remains on October 2, 2025.
